The national classified sites have certainly demonstrated the fact that nobody anymore should have to pay to sell their lawnmower to their neighbor. But the top-down national sites fail to provide any sense of connection to local economies or any sense that they're part of the neighborhood. I'm convinced, as Schauer is, that a fierce commitment to localization is necessary in the long run. Interesting article.
