EveryBlock Goes Social With ‘Notify Your Neighbors’

Outside.in Scores $7 Million; Alliance Formed with CNN

Outside.in, the blogger and hyperlocal news site aggregator, has scored $7 million in a new round of financing that includes CNN – a relationship that will include a content tie and that echoes MSNBC.com’s outright acquisition last summer of Everyblock. MSNBC.com Buys EveryBlock

MSNBC.com, the Seattle-based entity co-owned by Microsoft and NBC, has acquired Everyblock, Adrian Holovaty’s hyperlocal site. The price was apparently for “several million dollars,” per reports. The six person site, an outgrowth of Holovaty’s Chicagocrime.org site, is a leading edge example of “mapping journalism.” It maps street-by-street and neighborhood data and content for wide-ranging categories, …continue reading »

Holovaty’s ‘EveryBlock’ Prepares For-Profit Strategy
