The service was launched three years ago by Joshua Crandall, a New York City-bound commuter to keep track of NJ Transit info. He initially got five fellow commuters to exchange emails with him. It has recently expanded to include “late” information for buses, ferries, subways and some highways.
The service is primarily ad supported, with early advertisers including pizzerias and dry cleaners. Crandall told USA Today that the site is currently in discussions with “a pro sports team” to partner on more ad sales. The service has also recently licensed its data out to WCBS Newsradio in New York.
